From design to commissioning.
Every AC install is designed against a heat-gain calculation, not a back-of-envelope BTU rule. Five steps from enquiry to a working system.
- Site survey (30-45 min, free) — measure each room, glazing area, orientation, pre-existing electrical capacity, refrigerant route options.
- Heat-gain calculation — industry-standard sizing per room — we use Mitsubishi or Daikin tools rather than guessing.
- Written design + quote (48 hours) — specific model recommendation per room, refrigerant route, indoor/outdoor unit positions, planning notes if needed.
- Install day (1-3 days) — single split typically 1 day, multi-split 2-3 days. Pipe runs, electrical, mounting, refrigerant charge.
- F-Gas commissioning & handover — pressure-test, vacuum, refrigerant charge, performance test, controls demo, F-Gas logbook started.

- Multi-split systems: one outdoor unit serving 2-5 indoor units — Mitsubishi MXZ, Daikin MXM.
- Ducted and concealed: Mitsubishi PEAD, Daikin FBA — ideal for conservation-area or heritage installs where wall-mounted heads aren’t acceptable.
- Cassette systems: ceiling-mounted four-way blow — good fit for offices, retail, hospitality.
- VRF/VRV: Mitsubishi City Multi, Daikin VRV — commercial buildings, multi-tenant offices, larger residential projects.
- Heating mode: all systems above run as heat pumps in heating mode — useful shoulder-season warmth at low running cost.

Permitted development, F-Gas, conservation areas.
Three regulatory layers to know about:
- Permitted development: most domestic single-splits in Kent fall under permitted development if the outdoor unit is <0.6 m³, >1 m from boundary, not on a wall facing a highway. No planning needed.
- Conservation areas: permitted development is stripped — Sevenoaks Town, Westerham, Otford, Tonbridge Castle area, Tunbridge Wells all need a planning application. We handle the submission as part of the install package.
- F-Gas regulations: systems containing ≥5 tonnes CO&sub2;-equivalent refrigerant must be leak-checked annually by a REFCOM-certified company. Our F-Gas logbook upkeep is included on contract clients.

Frequently asked questions
How long does an AC install take?
A single split (one indoor + one outdoor unit) is typically one day on site. A multi-split serving 3-4 rooms takes 2-3 days. Commercial VRF systems with multiple cassettes can be 5+ days depending on scope.
Are you F-Gas certified?
Yes. We hold company F-Gas certification through REFCOM, which is the UK's F-Gas certification body. Every engineer working on refrigerant-bearing systems is individually certified. F-Gas logbooks and annual leak checks are part of our standard maintenance offer.
Does AC need planning permission in Kent?
Usually not for domestic single-splits in non-conservation areas, provided the outdoor unit is under 0.6 m³, more than 1 m from any boundary, and not on a wall facing a highway. Conservation-area installs always need planning. We handle the application as part of the install package.
Does AC also heat?
Yes. All modern reverse-cycle AC units operate as heat pumps in winter, providing efficient shoulder-season heating at coefficient-of-performance ratios around 3-4. Useful in spring and autumn when the gas boiler would be working hard for modest temperature lifts.
How much electricity does AC use?
A modern inverter AC with SEER 7+ running 4 hours a day in cooling mode typically uses 5-15 kWh per day depending on unit size. Over a typical 70-day UK cooling season at 28 p/kWh, that's £100-£300 per year for the cooling load.
